Academy Class: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

An eclectic group of mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box.

HMT’s Performance Intensive Academy class is for performers aged 13-22.

Important Dates

In order to help make this even more accessible, and maintain the quality of our DownStage Center productions, we are offering Academy students full scholarships if they audition and are cast in our school year DownStage Center shows or if they contribute to the productions as interns or PAs.
