Kathleen Edwards
Artistic Director
Kathleen Edwards is a theatre artist dedicated to enriching the lives of young people through the arts. Over the past 35+ years, she has directed, choreographed, and adapted more than 100 stage productions.
Kathleen began her theatre career in Hawaii, performing with community theatre companies and studying classical theatre at the University of Hawaii. She later performed with the nationally acclaimed Honolulu Theatre for Youth, appearing in hundreds of performances and touring throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Her professional work also included television appearances and regional theatre productions.
After moving to the Seattle area in 1989, Kathleen focused her career on youth theatre and arts education. She has served as Artistic Director for several youth theatre organizations and has directed projects with Seattle Opera’s Young Artist Program, Village Theatre’s KIDSTAGE, and numerous local schools. She also created and directed Eyewitness, a touring production based on Holocaust survivor testimony that performed for students across the region.
Kathleen is especially proud of HMT’s DownStage Center, an innovative program that offers a supportive, workshop-style audition process and a nurturing rehearsal environment where young performers can build confidence, creativity, and a love of theatre.
